From the "Golden Age of Botany" to the modern-day explorers, a passion for plants has driven mankind to pursue specimens.  Whether as a mission to discover the new or save the old, these botanical passions resulted in worldwide plant diversity and a rich horticultural history.

The Preservation Society of Newport County invites you to Explore!  Botanical Passions on the stunning grounds of Rosecliff.  World-class plant hunter Daniel J. Hinkley will be among the speakers who will share their adventures.  Kathy Rainer and Tricky Wolfes of Parties to Die For will amuse and amaze with their spectacular flower-arranging skills.

Newport Flower Show Wins Four Awards at Boston Show!

The Preservation Society's exhibit at the New England Spring Flower Show in Boston was honored with four awards.  The display created to promote the Newport Flower Show received the Massachusetts Horticultural Society Silver Medal, the Chicago Horticultural Society Flower Show Medal, and two Merit Awards from the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, for the outstanding use of forced plant material and for the artistic presentation of a display of plants of educational value and cultural perfection.

The garden installation consisted of a walk-through, fantasy landscape, featuring an oversized Wardian case (essentially a giant terrarium).  The exhibit paid tribute to one of the early 20th century's greatest plant explorers, Ernest Henry "Chinese" Wilson, who collected thousands of plants in the Orient, many of which are very popular in today's gardens.   The display  included an exhibit of Wilson's plant photographs, and visitors were given information about the upcoming Newport Flower Show.
